marion disaster recovery grant

The Marion Chamber Foundation Disaster Recovery Fund was activated after Linn County was declared a federal disaster area following the derecho on August 10, 2020. ​Up to one third of the balance collected through private donations will be granted to residents and businesses through emergency property repair or replacement grants. This grant program is designed to aid the most severely impacted residents and businesses. These funds may be used for emergency housing needs, insurance deductibles that the grantee can not afford, help with clean up, tree and debris removal, tree replacement and/or property repairs that were caused by the disaster and not covered by insurance.
  • Marion residential applicants are eligible for a grant up to $500
  • Marion business applicants are eligible for a grant up to $1,500. 

who can apply?

Marion Residents
To be eligible for a grant the applicant must:
  • Be a Marion, Iowa resident/s
  • Be current on all local, state and federal taxes or assessments
  • Have a provable loss including, but not limited to: loss of structure, loss of residential contents, loss of vehicle
  • Have a loss NOT covered completely by insurance
  • Not have sufficient cash on hand to cover loss or insurance deductible

Marion Businesses
To be eligible for a grant the applicant must:
  • ​Own a business or commercial property in Marion, Iowa
  • Be current on all local, state and federal taxes or assessments
  • Be categorized as a small business according to the Small Business Association (SBA)’s guidelines of “small” meaning those with less than 500 employees or $15 million in receipts, with specific guidelines for certain industries
  • Be located in an industrial, commercial or retail storefront. Home-based or non-profit business do not qualify
  • Have a provable loss including, but not limited to: loss of inventory, structure, or business infrastructure
  • Have a loss NOT covered completely by insurance
  • Not have sufficient cash on hand to cover loss or insurance deductible

how do i apply?

  • Applications will be accepted starting Monday, November 9, 2020.
  • Fill out application and provide required materials such as FEMA (for
    residential application) and SBA Disaster Loan information (for business application), insurance claims, etc.
  • Round Two of applications Due December 30, 2020
  • Applications will be reviewed by committee and awarded monthly until the fund is depleted.
